I have a scheduling conflict. Because here in my house we have a calendar. Everybody puts up items. In the current case about 3 weeks ago there was a calendar item indicating 'some conference' with no location. But I have a family event in the midwest I needed to go to on the same day (or days as I have to fly there). So I scheduled my trip and added it to the calendar.

Of course a day or two after that I am on my way out the door when little miss dictator opens the door and says "you didn't book your tickets yet did you?" Of course I had otherwise it wouldn't be on the calendar. "Well I was planning on being out of town that weekend as well, so what are you going to do?" I said I would gladly take our son with me, she said "no way". At which point I got into the car and went to work.

Skip forward 3 weeks. No speaking during this time, finally one night she says, you've canceled your plans right? Uh, no. She goes off on a rant about her being able to take a vacation any time she wants, I say go ahead. She comes back and asks if I am changing my plans again and I repeat that I would gladly take my son with me, to which I again get a 'no way'. Nothing more than that.

Skip forward about 4 days. Tonight I get "what time are you going to be back that monday?" I say about 10pm. She then says that months ago (now, we haven't really spoken since dec, so give this 4 months ago" I said I would go to my son's dr appt. And again says I need to change plans. This is for a trip that is happening this thur. Again I say no, and she goes off about how she has to go to the dr and talk about this life threatening issue (never mind whether or not I think it is life threatening) and the dr is going to ask where I am and I choose not to be involved. Just ranting and spewing and belittling. So while she is off in her turets I simply say I am going to walk away and go upstairs.

So now she's off laughing on the phone with someone (laughing!). I mean, how serious is this that she didn't bring it up immediately when the plans were made, didn't bring it up again a week ago when she started again, then only brings it up now when she realizes I am definitely going. And now she's off laughing on the phone about this life threatening issue? I don't think so. In my experience she just throws different things at me to get me to get angry or get me to not do what I plan on doing. It's all about control and power.

When I get back from my trip I am scheduling a private appt with the dr, get them to describe their concerns, talk about my experiences, and go from there. And I am getting a car so my son and I can leave the house on the weekends. Did I mention I'm not allowed to take the car with my son unless I tell her where we are going and how long we'll be? Because she might need to go out. So here she's placing herself above all others in the house, but I am the one being selfish. Luckily I'm not buying it any more.

Hey here I am again writing about holiday disasters.

The holidays have come and gone, and I just now feel it necessary to record the further dealings with OP.

This year we had an extended adventure; potatoes attacking, cabinets destroyed, hotel rooms, hospital visits and I've had my ducts cleaned (oh if only they were )

We've had a third party negotiator (you might think of them as a therapist) for some time now, and just before the holidays I sat in a couples session trying to communicate with the OP just how much crap I have to do, dealing with coworkers who behave like they are 5, then coming home and dealing with more 5 year olds, and how much I needed a break.

I go to work the next day, only to get a message on the phone that "we" need to deal with the snow in the driveway. Sigh. Fine add it to the list. I then give her a call to tell her I will be late from work that evening. Only I get "your son has been horrible all day, the basement is flooded" click. Well, now I'm in no hurry to go home, so off I go to organic money. Do a little shopping, pick up dinner for me and then head home. Only I'm not going to go in the house. I park, get the shovel and start clearing the driveway.

Sometime during the shoveling, OP comes to the door and says we need to talk. I say I'm busy and continue shoveling. OP "requests" a talk again. I say that I'm wiped out, and I'm just going to do the shoveling right now, at which point I get "fine then you need to call a plumber". I say no, and OP storms into the house. Back to my happy shoveling I go.

Finally, tired and with no snow left to deal with, into the happy house I go. Apparently the kitchen sink had gotten blocked up because of potato peels in the drain. The water had managed to leak out of the pipes under the sink into the cabinet under the sink. The sink has had a leak in the past, so the wood has already taken a beating and water has gone into the basement as well. I do what I can to clean it up, try and fix the drain (with no success). I go into the basement, no flood, just a small area with water which I quickly clean up and go to bed.

The next day, just to start off right, I go downstairs, fix the drain and clean out all the potatoes.

When OP gets up I tell her I fixed the drain (she's surprised at this) and says I need to call the plumber to cancel the appt she made. Uh uh, you did it you can undo it. I also then say that if she and child stay in a hotel that night, I'll fix the cabinet. OP would rather have a professional and says I need to be home for it (yeah, right) and I repeat that I will deal with it.

I go to work, and see that a pretty big snow storm is coming again that night and make my plans to leave work reasonably early. But before that I get a call telling me I need to come home because the 'professional' will be there and OP has no one to take care of our son. I say that's not possible... click.

So (drama rising) I drive home in the snow storm, doing my best not to slide around on the road. Now the fun begins... as I pull up to my no longer so lovely house, I see two trucks "Flood and Fire Specialists" parked in the driveway. Walking in the door three guys are leaning over where my kitchen sink once was, look at me and say "hi we're destroying your kitchen".

The OP is sitting in the living room. "I have to go get our son" she says, gets on her coat and goes (strange, I rushed home because I thought I had to take care of him). As I'm standing there the guy then grabs a hammer and BAM, right through the drywall. Yup, wet he says (funny, looked pretty dry to me given the dust when you hit it).

I find my kitchen sink in the dining room.

They get a phone call, circle around, turn on some fans and say "looks like you'll be getting a new kitchen for xmas". F you Mr. Happy Flood guy. They then pack up, "got another job" and leave.

Alone in my house, I eat my dinner and sometime later get a phone call from the mother of one of my sons friends. "What do you want me to do with your son?" strange, OP left about an hour ago to get my son. "Oh well she had to run an errand for me, she must be doing that first". Uh huh, so again no real hurry except to get me dragged into this f-up....

This is from a discussion with friends regarding goals of an application, how it is used and why it would be used.... I think web content with a stated goal should retain that goal, not get lost in what is popular for the moment.

.... And now I'll diverge for a moment. I am wrong, and here's why. There are sites and forums on the web that I know of that are popular because they are completely off topic and personal.

For example, I joined motley fool some time ago for financial information. I use several forums frequently, one in particular is LBYM (living below your means). When I first followed the topics they were useful and I found it informative. But it became more personal with lots of backbiting and sniping (people ripping apart other people's ideas). From my understanding some other web sites have gone the same way. This has made these areas very popular because people love dirt like they love car accidents. But for me, I now find motley fool, and that forum in particular unusable. It has lost its function but gained popularity. For the moment. Now that more time has passed I've noticed a distinct drop off in users now, the gossipees have left, and those who found the forum useful have also left, leaving it completely useless.

Hmmm, I guess I'm back at my original point that if the primary goal of something gets lost, then it becomes less useful. It might have a lot of hype, but the hype will wear off.

Okay, my first thought was: is someone pretending to be the devil stalking 'prince' aka the symbol formerly known as prince. Then I find out they mean prince, as in prince charles and now I think, isn't his estate in farm country? Wouldn't a pitchfork be a logical implement to have if you are a farmer... the news is so confusing.

The holidays have come and gone... but I'm left pondering my life with the Oppression Party. Prior to the holidays I was wandering the stores looking for gifts for my child, trying to stay in the holiday cheer. I decided to get the OP kitchen utensils for the holidays. Now I know what you're thinking. But I wasn't going to get anything. I've gotten jewelry, expensive electronics, lots of gifts with thought in the past and here I am, calling them the Oppression Party. So now they get utensils.

Don't you have utensils you ask? Well we did. For some reason ours disappeared, they were probably to happy like the pet, and I used them, so that must be the reason they were destroyed.

Anyways, I heard the OP talking, and saying what type they would really like. So I made an effort. And believe me I had to go to every kitchen store I knew to find this type, Williams Sonoma, Crate & Barrel, Linens & Crap; none of them had it. So I found it at a random kitchen store.

Now of course, I was going wrap them, but then I remembered some time ago getting a similar gift, and getting berated for gift. So I panicked, decided just to put them out for use, not as a gift and leave it at no gift. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. And I was damned. Cursed. Not verbally cursed, just tortured while I had my holiday time off.

These kitchen utensils met their fate as well. Goodbye utensils, I hardly knew you. Who knows what item in the house will be next to go.

The Opposition Party (OP) has grown more determined of late to ruin my life. As such I've formed the Resistance Party (RP) consisting right now of me. There were two of us, but the OP determined that the pet in our house was enjoying to much of it's life, slowly banishing my comrade in arms from various rooms in our house.

Eventually the OP must have realized the pet was no longer friendly to their plans, as OP decided the pet must go by any means. Meaning the pet was to be put to sleep. "it's time to move on" I was told.

I quickly contacted my connections outside the house, in an attempt to rescue the pet. Through third party negotiations I was eventually I was able to secure transfer of pet, but it required a midnight run across country. Needless to say, I'm told by my connections that pet is quite happy now.

Conspiracy theorists unite... from http://www.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/asiapcf/01/12/australia.birds.ap/index.html

Essentially the article describes thousands of birds dying in a town in Australia, for no currently known reason. Recently 60 birds also turned up dead in Texas. I'll go on to tie in the 'mysterious smell' reported in Manhattan this week. Aliens, terrorists, plot by evil cats? You be the judge.
