Whether he is a jock/footy player or not isn't the problem. He is still a guy.
Him asking you would cheat on him obviously shows that he HAS CONSIDERED you as his girlfriend or at least cares about you, if he didn't like you why would he even care if you cheated on him or not because you wouldnt be going out with him in the first place. Some guys don't like to get too emotional and talk about feelings, and assuming hes a footy player, they tend to show little emotion. He isn't into this other girl he wants you.

(INCREASE CHANCES of seeing him WITHOUT actually doing the asking out!) You will gradually build up a relationship.
When you talk to him, touch him lightly on his forearm, light, non-sexual contact ca be very pleasurable for a masculine male. Use your femininity!
