Can i use an Iphone without connecting to a network?

I'm more interested in using it for wifi access, video and music. not too bothered about having it as a phone, but does it need a sim card in to access all features?

Why not get an iPod touch instead then, all the features you want minus the phone

i think you can still use your iphone without a simcard...but it will be more accessible you have a service provider for your phone.so you can use more of its features..and why but an iphone if your not gonna use it as phone,anyway?but if you just want to use it's wifi to connect in the Internet..why not.you can still use it without a sim anyway...i think
