Hooking up to wifi?

My friend lives near a hotel that offers free wifi internet service. When I took my laptop to his house, I was able to easily connect to the web, as I already have a network card on my laptop. Here's my question. My friend has a desktop and uses dial-up. If I put a wireless card in his computer, can he connect as easy as I did, or is there a process to go through or other equipment that you have to get in order to set up your connection for the first time if you've never had wireless before? I had someone come out and install mine, so I'm not sure how it works. Thanks!

Hooking up to wifi?

You most probably will just have to set up the wireless PCI card and load all the drivers... It should be as easy as that...

Provided his desktop is within wireless range he should be able to connect to any public wireless service, but don't connect to a private service because it's technically illegal. If he is not in range he will need to get his own connection from an ISP.
