Windows XP Service Pack 3 Users...?

How's your experience been so far?

I managed to download sp3 yesterday directly from microsoft as they've only disabled page that links to the download but not the actual download link, so its here if you want it http://download.windowsupdate.com/msdownload/update/software/svpk/2008/04/windowsxp-kb936929-sp3-x86-enu_c81472f7eeea2eca421e116cd4c03e2300ebfde4.exe
Just make sure you dont download it if youre using Microsoft's RMS

I had some problems installing it, the whole system crashed and I was then unable to get back into my user account, so I had to reinstall it in safe mode.

Then this morning the computer just 'turned off', it didnt even restart... it just went off.

But overall my computer is a little bit faster than before but it doent seem worth the trouble of downloading and installing.
well actually I just uninstalled it right now. I couldn't stand it anymore

explorer.exe would have random moments where the memory usage goes through the roof, hangs and has to be restarted.

But the worst bit is that Microsoft has not identified this as a problem with the service pack so will therefore not fix it. The only thing that I know that theyre working on is the RMS issue.

Oh and the fact that none of my themes including my vista one worked with SP3 was the final nail in the service pack's coffin for me.

I will NOT be downloading it when it is officially released to the public. Im perfectly happy with my XP SP2.

Why on earth go out of your way to download and install some bug ridden rubbish that even MS doesn't want you to have ??

It looks like MS is still working on a stable version/release.
They claim that it gives you 10% performance but from what I see SP3 is causing alot of problems with certain Pc's and hardwares, so thats the major tradeoff.

That said, install SP3 at your own risk.

XP SP 3 and Vista SP1 Release Dates has been delayed for an unspecified time. They recommend that you not download either at the moment!
