Windows XP SP2 Vista?

Ok, so I just asked this question and appreciate the feedback but thought maybe to elaborate a bit more!
I repair computers and have done so for 10 yrs now, and never encountered this issue before, granted I am more familiar with past OS than Vista but have worked Vista enough to fix most issues.

The machine is a laptop, Dell Latitude, and I am fixing for a co-worker, As mentioned the start up indicates XP, under MY Computer it even says Windows XP SP2, however upon shutdown it reads Windows Vista Ultimate 2006. I know it is not possible to run two OS on one machine. I will look into the some of the option you all have provided, but I am still at a loss here!
Does XP SP2 have Vista components in it? Of course I am hoping that SP3 fixes the issue when it is FINALLY released, but also thought one of you fine folks could have an idea?

The computer upon shutdown takes almost 2min plus before it is off, I have tried all my tricks (just about)
any thoughts?
Def not trying to Dual boot, but I think it may be a skin based on your responses! I will re-evaluate and post update after!
Thanks everyone!

Were you trying to setup a dual boot?

If not...why not just wipe the hard drive and and install the one the is desired to run on it.

Windows XP SP2 Vista?

Hi.

I have installed windows vista on many of systems and i have never had the problem you having.

As you know what you are doing i can't really tell you already know, But i would reformat the HDD as if you have just installed Vista over the xp i have seen many problems after people have done this.

I would take the step to format the entire drive and start again.
