Yes, definitely. Think of this in other terms. Instead of cats, use "men," instead of dogs use "humans," and instead of birds, use "thinking beings."

After you substitute the words, you get the following statement, which is logically true.

If all men are humans, and all humans are thinking beings, then all men are thinking beings.

NOTE: A example does not prove a statement, but I am giving this example to show the logic being used.

Notice that you couldn't have concluded that all birds are cats because it would be the equivalent as saying "all thinking beings are men" which is false.
