| How far can a cat dog or bird smell with its nose? it's not really a matter of distance. It's a matter of number of scent molecules that can be detected.
I'm not sure of a birds sense of smell.
A cat has an average level of sensitivity about 7 times greater than a human. Which means that a cat can detect a much fainter trace of scent than we can.
Dogs on the other hand have a far greater sense of smell. I'm not positive of the exact amount, but I've heard some figures at 100 to well over 1000 times more sensitive. Bloodhounds maybe in the 10000 to 100000 times more.
Hope this helps |
