I've had 4 opossums in my apt this month!?

My landlord refuses to patch the hole where they are coming in from. Sometimes I go to 3-4 days before I can catch and release it. (note- I will not kill anything or call anyone that will). I also have a cat, rabbit and bird. The opossum (not a baby, not full grown) does not bother the other animals, and only comes out at night, after we're all in bed. It even snuck up on the bed and smelled the cat, and the cat didnt even know it. I don't know what to do. Can I refuse to pay rent? Call some kind of Health Dept on my landlord? I even feel bad about that because he really helped me out by letting me live here. I even contemplated just keeping it, but after reseraching, I dont' think I Can supply the high demand diet it needs, even thought it will just die on the streets anyway. I also read that they are less of a health risk (on the official possum society page) then cats and dogs. They are also less susceptible to rabies then me and you. So I don't know what to do.
By lettting me live here, I mean he let me move in at a moments notice with no credit application.

Even though your landlord should be the one to do it, how about just putting something over the hole yourself, and if your landlord complains about you doing it, tell him that you got tired of waiting for him to do it, and you did not want the opossum in your home.

Actually you could plug up the hole it uses to enter through. A possum is docile and not a violent animal. In fact they are kept as pets by many people. I had a few get into my home and it took about a month to find the whole they entered through. They never damaged anything and even though I saw them as did my dog they were even tempered. I picked up one of the smaller ones and considered keeping it, but eventually turned it loose. I suggest you repair the hole and maintain peace with your landlord. Loving animals is fine, but you home is far more important.

Call animal control. They will catch the possum and relocate it to a wild area, away from its present territory, which includes your apartment. Where is the hole where it gets in? Can you fix it yourself? If you can, fix it and deduct the cost of materials and a tad for your labor from your next rent. However, your saying your landlord is "letting" you live there makes me think you are maybe not paying any rent at all. If that is the case, then you should fix it yourself, just out of decency. Sure, you can call the health dept. Hope you are prepared to move. And, no, don't try keeping the possum as a pet. It would be miserable, and they can bite like the devil. Fix the hole, and let it live outside. Possums come up on my porch and eat the cat food.

I'm with the others, fix the hole yourself, at least to the point where it can't get in anymore.

if you really want to live in your appartment, call the landlord to see if u can patch the hole yourself, so it stops bothering your animal, if at this point u really don't care about your landlord, tell him that unless he patches up the hole, you will call some people on him (lol i don't know who u really could call in except for the police) if u refuse to pay rent, that won't make him patch up the hole, he will just kick u out, and if u refuse to move out, then he has the power to call the police on you
