How do I convince my parents to get a small dog? - u-Assist Forums

I already have 2 cats and 1 bunny, they are family pets. I have wanted a dog since I was about 5 years old. I got 1 dog at age 4 and it was too big so my parents gave it away, then we got another dog at age 5 and then it was too big so they gave that away. Then we moved to were there are alot of animals and my mom wants an indoor dog. I have talked to my parents for 6 years every day about the dog. I have took care of kittens, cats, bunnys, baby rats, birds, you name it, to show them how responsible I am... for that is what people say, show them how responsible you are. But my parents still won't let me. They aren't like others, if I stop asking them then they think I forgot, I finally earned up all of the money and found the perfect dog. But, they said no, I told them that the one I found is nice and cute and HOUSETRAINED but they still say no. Am I crazy for being angry about this? My brother is almost in college and my sister is busy with High School, I want a companion. Please help

how i got a dog was to cry and be upset and stay in my room and my dad bought me a weimaraner which is a very large grey dog

you sound just like me. haha. i would normally say show how responsible you are and stuff, but that doesnt seem to have worked. did you try explaining to them why you want one? sometimes if you let your parents know you are alittle depressed or just lonely they understand. i cant guarantee it to work but its worth a shot. if you have tried everything then i am sorry i do not know what to do!

a dog is a lifetime committment - obviously your parents don't see it that way. they have been irresponsible with 2 dogs & should not get another.

you are in school with lots of activities, homework etc & not much time for walking, grooming & feeding a dog. if they wanted a dog, they'd have one

some day when you are an adult & settled, then get a dog.

Tell them you'll pay for its food and stuff. That's what I said and now my mum palys with the dog more than me!!!

Stick with the pets you have. Maybe you could volunteer for the local animal control and help out that way. Obviously your parents realize that its a big responsibility that they do not want. What will become of the dog when you go to college?

Cocker. Spaniel.

They are the BEST!!!!!!!!! I have one.... it's awesome...
