| Why is my cable modem's IP address the same as my routers? Ok...here we go. Last night, I tried to install a wired Linksys router, so I could play Xbox Live as well as go on the internet on my computer at the same time. The router must be faulty, so I stopped trying to use it and just hooked the modem back up to my computer. It was working fine last night, but this morning, no matter what I do, the modem is coming up with the IP of 192.168.1.1, which is the default Linksys IP address. Last night, everytime I would just go back to the modem and hit repair, it would switch the IP to my ISP's choice, today, not so much. What the heck did I do? Just to add, I am a novice at computers and normally know how to fix things on my own. Here, I am lost. HELP!!!
Ok...some more detail. When I was getting it to run, hard-wired from PC to Cable Modem, no router involved, the IP address was something like 64.233.200.47 .........now, when I try to do the same exact thing today, it stays at 192.168.........it is beginning to make me angry. Could I have somehow made the router change settings in the modem? No matter how many times I refresh or repair the connection, it will remain 192.168. This is a strange instance. The router is definitely shot though, that's for sure. |
