Can i plug my router to a switch then a modem?

I need to plug a computer and printer to possibly a router/print server (w/usb printer connection) then to a switch where another computer can be plugged then that switch plugged to a modem. Will i be able to still connect to the internet, setup a home network on both computers and utilize the printer with only one computer having to be on?

This needs to be done this way because of room configurations and all of this is WIRED.

i can't have anything wireless

i already have the switch and modem and i want to know if buying the router/switch will help.

THANKS!!!

You can buy a router that will split hte internet to multiple computers AND plug a printer into that router to act as a network printer.

Alternatively, you can install a printer on a computer and use the printer from another computer via a private home network.

wont work. Modem must be plugged into the router to provide internet access to all devices. You can then plug the switch into the router. You might consider a router with 8 ports if you have more than 4 devices you need connected. Most routers give you 4 wired ports. That would eliminate all the switches.
