Invited every year to 4th of July party, but not this year?

I had forgotten it was Independence Day on Friday. My cousin e-mails me and asks if I'm gonna be at her brother's friday for the 4th of July party because she wants me to meet her new boyfriend. Well, I just realized at that moment that we were not invited this year. We have been going to this party for 5 or 6 years. I don't know what to do. I did email my cousin back and told her we were not invited and to call me. She's probably going to yell at her brother and then we'll end up with a "pity" invite or a "we were put on the spot" invite. What would you do, because I feel terrible.

Maybe you just didn't get the e-mail. This happens sometimes. I live in Asia and we have to double-check every e-mail we send to make sure it is effectively send and received. So we do a follow up a few days later to see if the person has received it.
I wouldn't feel uncomfortable about this. Either you didn't get it or it is just an oversight on his part (unless you have had problems with this person but apparently it doesn't seem to be the case). Call back your cousin to see if she heard anything - one way or the other - from her brother.
Don't feel guilty or think he may take pity on you! You have to have more self-confidence. It is most probably an oversight when going down his mail list.
Why would your friend have to coerce her brother? Isn't he mature enough to know of he wants to invite somebody or not? Like I said, probably just an oversight.
Anyway, enjoy a lovely 4th of July.
