Isn't the 4th of July a liberal holiday?

No, it's not.

The 4th of July is a holiday for everyone, a day that we remember the great sacrifices our founding fathers made to give us this great country.

You can sit around pouting about liberals and republicans all day for all i care...just keep it to yourself.

Isn't the 4th of July a liberal holiday?

"Liberal" back then had a totally different meaning than it does today.

Not to mention it was a document considered treasonous and unpatriotic at the time because it opposed and criticized the current government. I wouldn't be surprised if they were attacked for being un-English. I'll bet they were told "Well if you don't like England, then you can just GET OUT!"

So they did and took America with them. THE END!

... or was it?

bombom77 - If you think it was about taxes alone, then you are horribly misinformed. It was about being taxed without representation. There was no one to represent the colonies when it came to creating taxes. The taxes were not the problem, it was the lack of representation.

ahahahahaha!

Libs like big government and high taxes both of which England had. Why would they want to leave that? The US broke off because of high taxes and big government. Only conservatives work to lower taxes not liberals.

Uh... OK, America was founded as the fist government embracing liberalism, but that has nothing to do with conservatives in Texas today."Then it listed a slew of assumed rights not assumed anywhere else before in history!"

See, that's wrong, philosophers had pondered basic human rights for a long time, John Locke's philosophies were a cornerstone of our freedoms. The US was the first to implement and grant them, but they did not come from out of nowhere.

And our liberal forefathers bear little to no resemblence of liberals today. Liberalism was achieved in America, today's liberals are approaching socialism.

What does being from Texas have to do with this? I love how liberals spew their opinions and call it fact. In my OPINION, the Declaration' of Independence could be a conservative document. It threw off a government that was overstepping it's bounds and proclaimed a new government, a small government, that taxed less and did not 'redistribute' wealth. By the way, they were not 'assumed' rights, they were called inalienable rights (life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness). You liberals assume rights, such as the right to free or universal health care, the right to a job, the right to free government cheese.
