| Does freedom of the press include the right of the press to broadcast factually incorrect material? Are there any legal safeguards in the USA against the influential media outlets promoting falsehoods or reporting rumors as if they were news? Or can they report whatever they want, as long as they don't lose ratings (and money) by doing it?
There is an example in this video about rumors about Obama attending a Muslim school as a kid and other things, though I'm sure there are other example from other networks as well--FOX is just well watch-dogged:
