| Your opinion on Dennis Kucinich's exclusion from ABC debates? I find it distressing that the media decides which candidates are worthy of attention and which ones are not. Britney Spear's endless manic episodes get more attention on television than Kucinich or Gravel's campaigns combined.
The American public is repeatedly inundated with meaningless stories and images in the media, all the while they are kept isolated from real problems in our world.
How many Americans know where Darfur is on the map? How many Americans know that genocide is occurring as we speak? How many Americans know that most of our politicians are 'bought' by corporate interests? How many can NAME the corporate interests and just how much money certain industries spend to have politicians pass favorable legislature for them?
I have had to pore through the Internet to learn about any candidates that I am interested in, and even online there is not much left. In fact, I am not even as much of a fan of Kucinich or Gravel as I am a fan of true democracy. Since when is electing a leader come down to picking between only two parties (Rep or Dem), when is democracy picking between two people that managed to outspend and outmaneuver their opponents? I am sure there are people in our country that I would see much more fit to run our country, but they don't have the deep pockets and the ruthlessness or lack of morals as to allow themselves to be bought over.
I've never been fond of American news channels, I think the things they choose to broadcast are a disgrace. I was watching a piece on CNN about "which presidential candidate is hottest". Who cares? |
