Why does McCain get love south of the border?

Republican has almost become a four letter word here in Mexico, which largely sees the GOP as xenophobic and rabidly anti-immigrant. Republican candidates are seen as stepping all over themselves in an attempt to flash their tough on immigration credentials. The great Republican hope though is Sen. John McCain, who defied his party last year by co-sponsoring a broad immigration reform bill.

Analysts here are putting a lot of stock in McCain?s performance tomorrow night in the New Hampshire primary. Ricardo Raphael, a columnist for the El Universal newspaper, writes today that a McCain win would show that ?the xenophobia in our neighboring country has lost a fundamental battle ?On the other hand, if Romney or Giuliani recover their political vigor and manage to get past McCain or Huckabee (the winner of the Iowa primaries), the anti-immigration flag will continue to fly and the very soon it will be the Democratic candidates?that will have to define themselves before the issue.?

I didn't know wanting to stop illegal activity, drug smuggling, wanting to reduce gangs, violence, crime, and a drain on the U.S. welfare system, not to mention many numerous other programs, as xenophobia.

You're dead wrong. The GOP doesn't hate immigrants... Only ILLEGAL immigration.

Why is that so hard to understand?

Why should we accept you into our society when your very first act is to break our laws? And then you don't even bother to learn our language or adopt our cultural values?

If you want to do it right and obey our laws, like all other immigrants, then we'll welcome you with open arms. Otherwise, get the eff out!

McCain is a big disappointment.

He was ahead in every poll until he supported illegals rights and giveaways over citizens.

I think that too many people forget to easily and of course the media trumpets his amnesty as a great deal that the rest of the xenophobic repubs are wrong on. Of course that would mean that about 85% of the country is wrong too.

Keep educating everyone you know about illegal immigration, how it will affect them and how much it will cost them. The biggest point to educate people on is how an illegal amnesty will destroy this country for future generations.
